Growing Requirements

Vanilla plant requires a warm climate and high humidity to thrive. They grow properly in a well-drained rich soil under the shadow. Balanced fertilizer, proper space between plants, support to climb, and regular prune are necessary for healthy growth and good production. These plants need moisture through regular watering, and air circulation. Pollination and pruning help prevent diseases and encourages flower production.

Tips to Harvest Vanilla Beans

Vanilla plants usually begin flowering after 3-5 years, and flowers bloom for only a day. Do hand-pollination. Then flowers will develop into vanilla beans. They will take 6-9 months to mature for harvesting.  Further, to develop flavor and aroma sweating and drying process is required. After that beans are stored in a cool and dark place to avoid light and heat.
